WHAT IS THE YOLO FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER? In order to pursue our mission and vision, the Yolo FRC follows the principles, which promote working with families by focusing on their strengths, treating them as equals, and recognizing cultural and linguistic differences. This is accomplished by providing a safe and welcoming place where programs and assistance are available to families and communities. At the center of this effort is a holistic system that provides a safety net of services that are easily accessible and part of the community. What separates the FRC model from other service efforts is a basic principle that in order to be successful services and programs are specifically designed to include and engage the whole family rather than focusing on a individual member.
OUR HISTORY: The Yolo FRC operates on the belief that every community has assets and resources, and when they are strategically used they can lead to effective and appropriate services for children, families, and the community. The challenge is to identify and match these resources with the people who need them.
The Yolo Family Resource Center since 1999 has been a leader in linking individuals and families to community services within Yolo County. A central focus of the FRC is that no one agency has the expertise or ability to do everything. The value of the FRC is that it operates as a one-stop service hub to bring together program resources to help clients to find the appropriate services that they need. Often it is a not a question of service availability, but rather the challenge that clients face in attempting to navigate the myriad of possible providers. Simply providing a lengthy listing of potential providers is both ineffective and too often creates additional stress on those seeking services. The FRC has demonstrated through years of intensive work with individuals and families in crisis the ability to improve outcomes for clients, families, and the community. This has been accomplished through knowledge of the community and a commitment and ability to collaborate with a range of community partners.
YOLO FRC’s Core Philosophies:
- Free & accessible: all Yolo County residents can access services regardless of insurance, economic or legal status.
- Strength-based: families are recognized, enhanced and utilized in support planning.
- Family driven: families are viewed as equal partners in the assessment and treatment process.
- Culturally Competent: 90% of the YFRC staff are bilingual and bicultural.
- Convenient: Services are community-based and thus take place in a location and time that is most convenient for the family ( home, school, Yolo FRC, counseling center, and the community.)
- Outcomes: The Performance Outcome datatis used by the staff to assess the status of the clients, address gaps, allocate resources, and celebrate success. Funders and policy decisions makers can better understand how funds allocated are bring tangible results.
